Peace Valley Park

Peace Valley Park is one of the best running destinations in Bucks County, offering miles of scenic paved and gravel trails surrounding Lake Galena in a peaceful, nature-filled setting. The park’s signature route is the roughly 6-mile loop around the lake — a favorite for long runs, marathon training, biking, and relaxed recovery miles thanks to its rolling terrain, smooth footing, and constant water views. Runners can choose between wide paved paths, smaller nature trails, and wooded connectors that make it easy to customize distance and elevation. The park is especially beautiful during sunrise and fall foliage season, with frequent wildlife sightings and long stretches that feel surprisingly secluded despite being close to Doylestown. Whether you’re looking for an easy jog, tempo effort, or weekend long run, Peace Valley offers one of the most versatile and scenic running environments in the Philly suburbs.

Getting there

The most popular starting points are the main lots near the lake loop, the Nature Center, and Sailor’s Point. Parking is plentiful throughout Peace Valley Park, with major access areas located off Creek Road, New Galena Road, and Chapman Road. The Nature Center lot is a great option for shorter trail loops and shaded runs, while the larger lake lots provide easy access to the full 6-mile paved circuit around Lake Galena. Restrooms, picnic areas, and water access are available seasonally at several parking areas. Weekends can get busy during warmer months, especially near the boat rental and dam sections, but the trail network is large enough that the park rarely feels overcrowded.

Valley Forge Loop
The Joseph Plumb Martin Trail is Valley Forge National Historical Park's signature 5-mile paved loop, following much of the historic Encampment Tour route. The trail winds past many of the park's most notable Revolutionary War landmarks, including the National Memorial Arch, reconstructed soldiers' huts, Artillery Park, and Washington Memorial Chapel. Expect rolling hills rather than a flat walk, but the route is well maintained and suitable for walkers, runners, and cyclists.

Forbidden Drive
Classic out-and-back gravel trail through the heart of Philadelphia’s Wissahickon Valley Park following Wissahickon Creek for miles of shaded running with constant water views. Forbidden Drive is one of Philly’s most iconic running routes — wide, mostly flat, and closed to vehicle traffic, making it ideal for easy miles, long runs, recovery days, and marathon training alike. Along the route you’ll pass historic bridges, dense forest, and landmarks like Valley Green Inn, with plenty of opportunities to branch off onto more technical singletrack trails if you want extra elevation or terrain. The crushed gravel surface is soft on the legs and the scenery changes beautifully throughout the seasons.

Schuylkill River Trail
The Schuylkill River Trail (SRT) is one of the best multi-use trails in the Philadelphia region. It follows the Schuylkill River through urban Philadelphia, Manayunk, Conshohocken, Valley Forge, Oaks, and Phoenixville, offering a mix of river views, historic sites, parks, and town centers. The trail is mostly paved between Philadelphia and Valley Forge, making it great for biking, running, walking, and casual rides. West of Valley Forge toward Phoenixville you'll encounter some crushed stone sections but they're still very bike-friendly.
